Three Mobile E-learning Extranet

Opportunity

When Three entered the mobile telecommunications market, they had to move fast. The first task was to build an effective sales network. The next was to educate, motivate and excite the sales force. Store staff needed up-to-date, easy to understand information as soon as it was available, turning them into instant Three experts, able to advise potential customers about 3G, Three mobiles and the Three network.

Solution

After a technical audit of 3rd party and own stores, we created a password-protected, database-driven HTML and Flash Extranet called Three E-learning. This powerful online information delivery system lets sales managers control training from their desktops. And it gives sales staff everything they need to know about the Three network, both in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, in an entertaining and involving way that includes interactive tutorials.

The site provides clearly ordered and easily accessed content that covers all of Three′s many products and services. The system is fully content managed for easy updating – which is carried out on a daily basis. Using a personal login, training can be tailored to the individual requirements of segmented user groups. It also allows Three to accurately monitor usage, providing regular reports, and makes it possible to do targeted incentives across individual sales channels.

Result

The site has helped Three to be seen as a pioneer in staff education (Carphone Warehouse and The Link see it as an example of best practice and link to it from their own Intranets). Now in its 6th year, Three E-learning is seen as a key information delivery channel for Three and was a finalist in the World of Learning Awards 2006 ‘Online Solution of the Year’.

There are currently 12,800 registered users and 2,600 store groups in the database, and weekly logons number, on average, 6,000. These same people have helped Three to achieve the following accolades:

  • The fastest growing mobile network in the UK – fastest to 3 million customers
  • 'New brand of the year' at The Marketing Society awards in June 2005. A survey conducted in 2005 amongst 161 principal dealers asked them to score various 3Seller support tools on a 1-7 scale where 4 was the midpoint.
